As the anti-Goods and Services Tax rally drew to a close Friday evening, the police stepped in and apprehended 59 protesters at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
Police have confirmed that they were also detained due to possession of smoke bombs and explosives.
The police have reportedly summoned Opposition chiefs as well social activists to turn themselves in at the Dang Wangi police headquarters tonight.
At approximately 10pm, Negara-Ku patron, Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan was arrested to assist in investigations linked to the anti-GST rally.
The police station was abuzz with a hive of activities as opposition leaders and activists slowly trickled in to the station.
DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke arrived who arrived at 10.30pm was swarmed with media personnel who fielded him with questions pertaining to the arrests.
According to Kuala Lumpur chief police, Datuk Tajudin Md Isa those arrested are aged between 17 and 60 are being investigated under Section 143, Section 448 and Section 427 or Penal Code and Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalty).
