Implementation of the Secured Automated Clearance System for Malaysian Citizen Motorcyclists (M-Bike) lanes has not only reduced congestion at Malaysia-Singapore entry checkpoints but also detected various offences.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the first six months implementation of M-Bike had detected some 7,420 cases involving suspect list and invalid travel documents.
Of the number, 4,963 cases were detected at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) while 2,547 cases were detected at the entry checkpoint at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB).
"This shows that this system not only reduce congestion but can also detect suspects and is certainly good for security," he told reporters, here today.
The M-Bike system also detected those who failed to pay National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans and taxes.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid spent about an hour and a half visiting the M-Bike operation at BSI by about 50 enforcement officers and representatives from the state government.
The Home Minister was accompanied by his deputy, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad, State Exco for Housing and Local Government, Datuk Md Jais Sarday and Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
The Implementation of M-Bike involved 50 entry and exit lanes at BSI and 25 entry and 25 exit lanes at KSAB. Some 123,422 applications for the M-Bike system have been received.
