The Malaysia Youth Council (MBM) has given some suggestions to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia to encourage and appreciate the ideas and creativity of young people in producing videos with good content.
MBM president Jufitri Joha said the ministry could provide modules to improve video-making skills to hone the talents of young people to produce creative content and give recognition to young people who achieve success through creative artwork.
In addition, he said, the government could help through providing a grant to young people who want to develop their creative artwork or video; expanding 4G broadband infrastructure and facilities to the interiors; as well as encouraging documentaries production related to Malaysia.
“Young people have various ideas and creativity to produce something through the field of the art of creative content. Many are involved in this world of art, most of them are young people.
"Being a 'YouTuber' for example has helped boost the digital economy of young people and should be encouraged by the government, what more during the post-COVID-19 period," he said in a statement yesterday.
The statement was issued in response to the Cabinet decision not to impose licences on independent social media users who produce short films with creative content.
Jufitri added that digital media practitioners and users only need guidance on broadcasting ethics and do not need to take a licence because it is very impractical.
