SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has cautioned the public to stay away from the Section 7 lake here for the time being, following an alleged sighting of a crocodile.

In a statement on Facebook, the council said it has installed a rope barrier around the lake and held discussions with the Selangor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) regarding the matter.

The statement added that MBSA and Selangor Perhilitan have also visited the location and will monitor the situation.

"As a safety measure, Perhilitan will also place warning banners around the Section 7 Lake and install traps to catch the crocodile," read the statement.

The statement followed claims of a crocodile sighting in the area that went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Selangor Perhilitan director, Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh, confirmed the presence of a crocodile in the lake and cautioned the public to remain vigilant and keep a safe distance from the area.

He said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the size of the reptile.

"The Perhilitan team will conduct regular monitoring, and a relocation operation will be carried out based on assessments and ongoing field observations," he added.
