MCA's deputy president Datuk Wee Ka Siong wants police to take action against the Red Shirt rally Datuk Jamal Md Yunos for threatening another rally or a riot at Petaling Street.
said such a threat was irresponsible and could cause public unrest, The Star reported.
He said Jamal's acts had tarnished his own image as a politician and the country as well.
“He has gone overboard and taken the law into his own hands. How can he threaten the country with a riot?” Wee was quoted by the daily.
The Red Shirt had gathered on Sept 16 had among others demanded that the Domestic, Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry against the alleged sale of counterfeit goods in Petaling Street.
They also wanted the traders there to share a portion of their income with other races and stop a monopoly in the area.
Yesterday, the Sungei Besar UMNO division chief warned that another rally will be held at Petaling Street this Saturday if the authorities failed to meet their demands.
He expected about 5,000 people to gather at the Saturday rally, which he said could turn into a riot.
Last week, UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said action must be taken against UMNO Youth members if they were found to have flouted laws during the Red Shirt rally.
The Youth and Sports Minister also called on all quarters to stop resorting to racial provocation and added that the government does not want any elements which can trigger racial conflicts in the country.
