MCMC to block websites promoting Bersih 4.0

The Malaysian Communication of Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has decided to block websites which promote, disseminate information and encourage people to join the Bersih 4.0 rally.
In a statement today, the commission said that these actions could undermine the country’s stability.
It also added that Bersih 4.0 is:
1. Engaged illegally. This creates an anxious situation among the public especially for Malaysians of various race, religion and ethnicity.
2. Spreading propaganda to incite the people to go against the Government by distributing leaflets that may pose certain disadvantages.
3. Through various activities it had created an adverse impact on the country’s image which poses a threat to public order, security, economic prosperity and the country’s sovereignty. It also affects the harmony in Malaysia.
MCMC would like to remind the public to be more cautious in sharing information on the websites and social media, particularly contenst that may violate any laws of Malaysia.
