The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, (MCMC) is investigating a video clip the contents of which allegedly ridiculed the implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 over improper use of network facilities.
MCMC chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie said the commission started its investigation as soon as complaints were received from members of the public on the video clip.
"We have also contacted the police to extend our assistance in their investigation (into the same case)," he said in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, police had started investigations under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for disseminating statements which could cause public mischief and had sought the assistance of MCMC to obtain information on the account used on YouTube.
English language business radio station, BFM was reported to have uploaded the one-minute-56-seconds long video clip entitled 'Hudud Isi Periuk Nasi?' featuring a presenter who ridiculed the implementation of Islamic laws and raised the anger of social website users.

On Friday, the radio station took down the video clip and apologised and said they did not mean to question hudud and were only telling its audience to question the link between hudud implementation and the issue of massive floods which hit Kelantan recently.
Following the dissemination of the video, the journalist in it received various criticisms including death threats.
Halim reminded the people not to upload or disseminate threatening messages online as it is in violation of the law.
"Let the authorities conduct the investigation sfirst. Several individuals in Penang have also lodged police reports over the threats to kill and rape the presenter and I understand the police are investigating these as well," said Halim.
