KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been ordered to communicate with the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (SRBN) to solve the Internet speed problem in the East Malaysian state.
Its minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa through his tweet, raised the matter following the viraled news on a youth in Sarawak facing the difficulty of undergoing an online interview by a university in the peninsula due to the problem.
"I very much sympathise with him (youth) for having to go through this but I am impressed with his tenacity.
"This Internet network is, however, under the supervision of SRBN," he added.
The media reported that Frank Steward Panting Sa, 19, from Pakan, Sarawak had to climb up Bukit Kelingkang for two hours to get the required Internet speed for an online interview to study at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Perak.
The teenager lives in a longhouse, Rumah Suing in Teberu, Ulu Kemalih which is equipped with the WiFi Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural and Nation (channel) but it could not meet the data requirement for the interview.
