MCMC requests Google to block Alvin Tan's YouTube account - Jailani
Datuk Jailani Johari said the commission would also liaise with the Attorney-General Department for the blogger's extradition to the country as he is now living in the United States.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has sent a request to Google Inc to block an online video streaming, Youtube, account of a controversial blogger, Alvin Tan, for allegedly uploading provocative contents on social media.
Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the commission would also liaise with the Attorney-General Department for the blogger's extradition to the country as he is now living in the United States.
"I am made to understand MCMC has taken action by sending a letter only as the contents were uploaded abroad.
"We (MCMC) have requested Youtube to delete all of Alvin's pictures and videos and the relevant party is doing it," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here, today.
It is reported that Tan had taken refugee in the US in order to obtain political asylum in an attempt to evade from being charged for his offences committed in Malaysia.
Tan's offences included uploading contents that insulted Islam and Malay Rulers on his Facebook account which was punishable under the Sedition Act upon conviction.
