MCO: Number of violators decline to 550 - Ismail Sabri
Of the total arrested on Thursday, 480 were remanded while another 70 were released on police bail.
The number of individual arrests for violating the Movement Control Command (MCO) showed a decline to 550 individuals on Thursday compared to 763 individuals the previous day.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it had brought the total number of individuals detained for the offence to 19,048 individuals.
Of the total arrested on Thursday, 480 were remanded while another 70 were released on police bail.
“We hope that the number of arrests will continue to decline, reflecting the increasing level of people's compliance with the MCO regulations.
"In addition, 1,014 individuals have been indicted in court for defaulting on the MCO," he said at a press conference here today.
In the meantime, he said the authorities had noticed increased vehicle movement on the road the day before Muslims in the country were celebrating Ramadan.
Ismail Sabri said the situation was believed to be because people went out to buy basic goods in preparation for Ramadan.
“Yesterday the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) along with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) conducted 827 roadblocks nationwide and inspected 627,494 vehicles.
"A total of 42,941 surprise inspections have been conducted nationwide with 6,700 premises being inspected by the authorities," he said.
