The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) has welcomed the move by traffic police to take action against motorists with modified license plates and window tints which do not comply with regulations.
MCPF vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said tinted windows were not the only way to prevent glare as claimed by most motorists.
"There are many other heat resistant plastic products in the market approved by the RTD (Road Transport Department) which comply with specifications," he told Bernama.
Such modifications made it difficult for the police to detect suspects involved in crimes, he said.
Another step would be to take action against companies which supplied excessive tints on the pretext that it was approved by the RTD, he added.
Lee also urged the authorities to clamp down on vehicles which used excessively glaring headlights which dazzled other road users and created dangerous situations.
He said it was important for the authorities to enforce the law in a comprehensive manner and include non-compliance of other specifications as well.
It was reported on Thursday that the Traffic Police have given an ultimatum to vehicle owners with illegal tinting and license plates to revert to specifications by June 15.
