KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has pledged its unequivocal support and commitment towards making MyDigital -- the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint -- a key driver of national development and success.

MyDigital is a roadmap for the country’s digital transformation in pursuit of the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 to achieve social well-being, environmental sustainability and equitable economic development.

In a statement today, MDEC said the blueprint advocates a human-centric approach centred on using technologies responsibly, preserving human values and cultural heritage.

"MDEC, with the full support of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, will continue to lead the digital economy; centred on ensuring shared prosperity and towards realising the objectives of the Malaysia 5.0 digital economy.

"This is focused on our three strategic thrusts – empowering digitally skilled Malaysians, accelerating digitally-powered businesses and attracting digital investments," it said.

Chairman Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff said MDEC is committed to rolling out key digital initiatives announced in Budget 2021 to ensure the society can fully leverage and benefit from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) technologies and establish Malaysia as the heart of Digital ASEAN.

"Our vision of Malaysia 5.0 complements the holistic MyDigital blueprint, encouraging the creation of a society that is deeply integrated with technology, governed by inclusive and equitable eco-environmental principles and practices.

"From the digital skills and jobs perspective, MDEC has accelerated its efforts to expand the digital capabilities of Malaysians via initiatives such as ‘Let’s Learn Digital’ to continue to upskill and reskill Malaysians," he said.

To-date, MDEC has offered more than 3,800 free courses, for which it had received more than 21,000 applications.

In its effort to digitalise and automate businesses, MDEC has rolled out various initiatives, such as the 100 Go Digital, small and medium enterprise (SME) Digital Accelerator, Smart Automation Grant and SME Digital Quickwins.

These initiatives aim to ensure that small businesses are properly equipped to navigate the benefits and challenges of the digital economy, Rais Hussin said.

“So far, 335,834 SMEs have been onboarded onto e-commerce marketplaces, and we will intensify our outreach here.

"I am grateful that our SME initiatives have attracted numerous partners such as telcos and banks to jointly support SMEs and entrepreneurs in their digitalisation journey," he added.

On digital investments, Rais Hussin said Malaysia has attracted RM345 billion worth of investments to-date, creating about 185,000 jobs.

"In 2020 alone, new investments by pure-play technology companies stood at RM3.98 billion, while new investments recorded by digital services companies were RM2.01 billion.

"These investments created approximately 9,000 new jobs," he added.
