KUALA LUMPUR: Several more individuals will be arrested on the issue of illegal import meat cartel syndicate.
Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Datuk Azmi Alias said his department has identified several more individuals and arrests would be made to complete the investigation.
He, however, declined to reveal the identity of the individual and whether it involves government officials or not.
"Currently, I cannot reveal (identity) because I am worried about interfering with the investigation," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI here, on Tuesday.
Today, three other Assistant Enforcement Officers of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) Johor Bahru were remanded for five days in connection with the investigation in the meat cartel issue.
A remand order was issued by the Assistant Registrar of the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court, Nur Fathiah Mohd Fedzir at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court, Johor.
All those aged 40 to 55 were detained at the Johor MACC office at about 7pm on Monday, on suspicion of being involved in corrupt activities related to the entry of frozen meat which was not allowed by the Malaysian Veterinary Department.
