In a bid to escape a routine police check in Jinjang Utara this morning, a mechanic sped off in his customer's multi-purpose vehicle for about a kilometre before attempting to ram pursuing policemen.
His action forced the police to open fire in the direction of the Toyota Alphard before the 40-year-old suspect was arrested in the 11.15am incident.
In a statement here today, Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said a police team seized a samurai sword, machete, 10 eramine 5 pills and a packet of syabu from the vehicle.
He said earlier, a police team had stopped a man driving the Toyota Alphard near Rumah Panjang Kawasan A Jinjang Utara for inspection.
However, the driver accelerated and headed towards Jalan Jinjang Utara. There, he stopped the vehicle before reversing to hit the pursuing policemen.
The police fired three shots at the vehicle's bumper before nabbing the suspect, said Munusamy.
