PASIR PUTEH: The Melaka state election is the best platform and barometer to gauge the unity of political parties in the country before facing the coming 15th general election (GE15).

PAS Central Ulama Council chief, Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said the party viewed the decisions made by voters in Melaka seriously as announced on Nov 20 and why the victory favours the particular contesting party.

"I believe the people will reject any forms of party splitting as it would only lead to their loss.

"All contesting parties should campaign professionally and should not hit their opponents and should instead give messages of uniting the people," he said when asked to comment on the latest development in the Melaka election campaign.

Earlier, Nik Muhammad who is also Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister presented one-off assistance and food baskets to 70 rented car drivers at the office of Taman Mahkota Car Rental here today.

The Election Commission (EC) set the polling day for the Melaka election on Nov 20 while nomination day was on Nov 8 and early voting on Nov 16 following the dissolution of the State Assembly on Oct 4 after four assemblymen withdrew their support for the chief minister.
