The state police contingent will give its full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct a thorough investigation to weed out corrupt officers and staff.
Melaka police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said the contingent was open and ready to cooperate with the MACC until the investigations were completed.
"I respect enforcement bodies like the MACC because they are professional in performing their duties and we will wait and find out the results of the investigations which will be handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) leadership," he said.
He was speaking to reporters at the launching ceremony of the Police Family Entrepreneurial Seminar which was officiated by Permodalan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam at the Seri Temenggong Police Housing Quarters here today.
Seven police officers and staff of the Melaka Contingent have been detained to facilitate investigations into the 'protection' of illegal gambling houses and massage parlours in the state.
Abdul Jalil said the MACC probe over the last few days had not dampened the spirits of the officers and staff in Melaka to continue serving the people.
He said he would tighten discipline among the officers and staff through a spiritual approach to shape them into highly-disciplined people who were not easily influenced by negative elements.
"I also welcome the cooperation of the local community and non-governmental organisations in giving their opinion to the state police contingent to improve the integrity of the officers and staff," he added.
