ALOR GAJAH: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali is in a three-cornered fight for the Lendu state seat in the Melaka state election.

Sulaiman of Barisan Nasional (BN) faces Major (R) Abdullah Mahadi of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Mohamad Asri Ibrahim of Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Returning officer Mohd Haidir Haron announced the names of the candidates at 10.39 am at the Japerun Lendu Complex Hall in Masjid Tanah near here today.

The polling day for the state election is set on Nov 20, while early voting is on Nov 16.

The state election is being held following the dissolution of the State Assembly after four assemblymen announced that they have lost their confidence in Sulaiman's leadership.

In the 14th general election, Sulaiman won the seat with a 627-vote majority.

Speaking to reporters later, Sulaiman said he was satisfied with the nomination process and everything went smoothly.

"I hope that everyone will comply with the SOP (standard operating procedures) set by the Election Commission or the MOH (Ministry of Health) and the campaign will proceed well," he said.

He said among the things that would be offered to voters in the Lendu state constituency if he was given the mandate as elected representative were the development of e-sports and extreme sports for youths, besides improving road network connectivity.

Meanwhile, Abdullah said he would use social media platforms to campaign.
