Melaka senior government officer remanded for alleged corruption

A senior officer with a government department here and who is a 'Datuk', is being remanded for seven days from today to assist in the investigation into a corruption case.
Melaka magistrate's court assistant registrar, Syarina Shaarani @ Tan issued the remand order on the 56-year-old suspect.
The investigation is being conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for alleged soliciting for bribes.
Earlier, the suspect who was in an orange T-shirt with the words 'Lokap SPRM' (MACC Lock-Up) on it, arrived at the Melaka Court Complex in Ayer Keroh here about 9.30 am, accompanied by MACC officers.
The suspect was taken away from the complex about 30 minutes later after the remand order on him was issued by the court.
Yesterday, three public officials including a 'Datuk' and a 'Datuk Seri' were arrested in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Kelantan over allegations of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering.
