A former assistant director (Management and Finance) of Melaka Stadium Corporation today pleaded not guilty to four counts of using her position to obtain bribes amounting to RM45,572.30 between 2014 and 2015.
Nurulain Norazmi, 30, was charged with using her position as a public body officer, to issue and approve four government procurement orders worth the said amount to Syarikat Ah Boy Supplier and Services, where the accused's brother Mohd Najib Norazmi is the sole proprietor of the company.
The first charge involved a procurement order to supply equipment worth RM6,830 to Hang Tuah Stadium in September 2014, and the second charge involved supplying equipment and paints worth RM10,930 to Hang Jebat Stadium in December 2014.
The third charge involved the supply of cleaning equipment worth RM13,167.30 to Hang Jebat Stadium in April 2015 and the fourth charge, the supply of cleaning equipment and items worth RM14,645 to the same stadium in January 2015.
Nurulain had allegedly committed all the offences under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, at the Management and Finance Division, Melaka Stadium Corporation office, here.
The offences, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, each carry a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the bribes or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor from the MACC, Mohammed Heikal Ismail offered the accused bail of RM15,000 in one surety.
However, her lawyer Mohd Shahrullah Khan Nawab Zadah Khan asked the amount be reduced to RM5,000, the amount the accused could afford to pay.
Mohd Shahrullah Khan said the accused was six months' pregnant and had two children aged five and six years, besides taking care of her ailing parents-in-law.
He added that Nurulain was now jobless as she had resigned from her post at Melaka Stadium Corporation in February.
Judge Norma Ismail allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 in one surety and set Sept 19 for case mention.
