The Taman Melawati Zone A, B and C Residents' Association today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) about a project to develop a convention centre at plot PR14843 in Taman Melawati, Ampang.
Its chairman Razman Hakimi Abdullah said the report would enable the commission to investigate the project including the original plan of the area in 2014 which had been approved for a recreation park , but now replaced with a different project.
He said the MACC investigation was necessary in this issue as he claimed the Selangor government had converted the status of the land which should have been kept for a recreation park for the residents.
"We want the MACC to look into how within five months, it was replaced with a proposal for a mega project to build a convention centre worth RM27 million and how such a big project could so easily go through all the processes for approval," he told reporters after lodging the report with the MACC here.
Razman Hakimi said this should not have happened as the state government through the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council had previously promised that the area would be made into a recreation park and reserved for public amenities.
He added that the land clearing ceremony was set for December but the developer had not kept its word to retain the greenery in the area. - BERNAMA
