Mentally unstable attacks disabled, gets shot by police

A visually-impaired man's plan to treat another man who is mentally unstable for breakfast ended in a bloody incident when he was attacked with a parang by the latter at a restaurant in Jalan Bangsar, Wednesday.
In the 10.45am incident, Ahmad Yaakob, 59, was injured on his left shoulder and face after he was slashed by the 36-year-old mentally deranged man following a misunderstanding while chatting over breakfast at the restaurant.
The incident caused a massive traffic jam along busy Jalan Bangsar when hundreds of curious onlookers from both directions of the road gathered near the scene of the incident.
KL police chief, Datuk Mohmad Salleh said in the incident, the attacker had punched the victim before taking out a parang and slashing him.
"Policemen nearby tried to calm the man down but he waved his parang at them, forcing one of them to shoot him on his left thigh," he told reporters.
He said the victim and his attacker were taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment. Their conditions were reported to be stable.
The attacker will be investigated after his treatment.
