Where were you and what were you doing on that night when Mercedes-AMG launched the GT? By Jerrica Leong
After months of teasing fans with images and videos, along with soundtracks that features the engine starting, and exclusive coverage of a camo-covered coupe sports car. Mercedes-AMG has finally put us all out of our misery with the launched of the Mercedes AMG GT in September. Fans were even invited to stream the premiere live all over the world! The GT is set to give the Porsche 911 a run for its money!
The GT is the second model to be entirely developed in house by Mercedes-AMG. The GT combines driving dynamics and first-class racetrack performance with superb everyday practicality carrying the heritage of the first ever Mercedes as a racing car with a twist.
There are two variants for the Mercedes-AMG new car: the AMG GT and the AMG GT S.
The AMG GT’s V8 biturbo front mid-engine seven-speed dual clutch transmission manages a 462bhp at 6000rpm and 600Nm at 1600-5000rpm, with a kerb weight of 1540kg. The GT accelerates from 0 to 100kph is just 4.0seconds and has a top speed of 304kph.
If that is impressive take a look at the GT S’ spec sheet! The GT S had recorded an output of 510bhp at 6250rpm and a max torque of 650Nm at 1750-4750rpm. The GT S weights just 20kg more than the normal GT and trumps the GT by 0.2 of a second with a 0 to 100kph time of 3.8seconds. The GT S also has an impressive top speed of 310kph.
Add that V8 biturbo engine, seven-speed dual clutch transmission with the aluminium spaceframe, locking differential, sports suspension and the low kerb weight of 1540kg, the GT delivers the driver racetrack performance.
Surprisingly, the GT’s AMG 4.0-litre V8 engine meets the Euro 6 emissions standard including the maximum particulate emissions level that takes effects in 2016.
The GT’s 4.0-litre engine was specifically designed for the model. The eight-cylinder engine is the latest addition to the BlueDIRECT engine family. The GT set a new benchmark figure for fuel economy of 7.74l/100km.
The GT S comes with electronically controlled dampening and AMG Dynamic Plus package comes as an option. Both the GT and GT S adopts numerous assistance systems that are familiar from the new S-Class.
In case you missed the premiere, you can catch the GT’s premiere at the Paris Motor Show!
