Met Dept denies issuing tornado warning
Social media was abuzz that the department had issued a warning that tornadoes would hit the two places in the next couple of days.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has denied issuing a tornado warning for the federal capital and Putrajaya.
Its deputy director-general (Climate and Weather), Alui Bahari said the public should not panic over rumours to the effect.
"People should stop spreading such information citing it came from our department because it is false," he said when contacted by Bernama tonight.
Social media was abuzz that the department had issued a warning that tornadoes would hit the two places in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued late tonight, the departament said the thunderstorm activities occurring over waters off Kedah and Penang were expected to continue until early morning Oct 27.
The condition could cause strong winds up to 50 knots and rough seas with wave height up to 3.5 metres and dangerous to small boats, it said.
