Methamphetamine, heroin worth RM5.7mil seized in Rantau Panjang

Kelantan police seized 199,791 methamphetamine pills and 350 bottles containing heroin, all worth RM5.7 million, in an 'Op Cantas' raid by the General Operations Force in Kampung Lubok Gong, Rantau Panjang, on Tuesday.

State police chief, Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the raid was conducted on a house in the village about 9pm where police also detained a 40-year-old Thai woman together with four children aged between two and 12 years.

"The drugs were hidden in a hole covered with a tile in the house," he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters, here, today.

"The main suspect, believed to be the woman's husband, had fled before the raid took place," he said, adding that police had identified the man to be a local, aged 47, believed to have been distributing drugs in Kelantan and Terengganu.

Jalaluddin said the initial investigation found that the woman had no previous criminal record and police believed that the methamphetamine pills were sold at RM25 each.

The woman is being remanded for a week from yesterday for further investigation while the children were released on bail.

Jalaluddin said Kelantan police had asked for the cooperation of Thai police to track down the man believed to have escaped to the neighbouring country.

The case in being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
