KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia E-Vaporizers and Tobacco Alternative Association (MEVTA) has stated its support to the Generational End-Game (GEG) suggestion in the Tobacco Product and Smoking Control Bill 2022 that is scheduled to be tabled at the upcoming parliamentary sitting.
MEVTA stated in a statement today about its readiness to work with the Health Ministry (MOH) in supervise the vaping industry in the country.
"We really hope that all MPs to set aside their political differences and unite to support the bill at the Dewan Rakyat," the association statement read.
On yesterday's media reports quoting METVA asking the Cabinet to review the ban on vape sale and ownership to individuals born from 2005, the association said the statement was made before the engagement session with the MOH that took place yesterday.
According to MEVTA, the agreement to the suggestion came after a clear explanation from Health Ministry Khairy Jamaluddin and the ministry's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) regarding the GEG suggestion.
Khairy was previously reported to have said that the suggested GEG provision in the bill was to protect the young generation of Malaysians from being involved in smocking and forming smoking addictions when they became adults, and to reduce the percentage of smokers in Malaysia to five per cent by 2040.
