The body of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 First Officer Ahmad Hakimi Hanapi, 29, will be among the 20 remains scheduled to arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport tomorrow.
The victim’s grandparents, Daud Abdul Kadir, 80, and Zaleha Bawal Khan, 73, were grateful that their wish to see their grandson’s remains is fulfilled.
Even though Ahmad Hakimi will be buried in Putrajaya instead of his hometown of Melor, Kelantan, Daud was still grateful that there is a grave for his grandson and for his family members to visit.
According to Daud, Ahmad Hakimi's mother, Noriah Daud and the deceased's family members are currently in Kuala Lumpur, awaiting the arrival of his remains.
"I'm grateful to God because Hakimi’s body is still intact. I was so grateful when I heard that news," he said.
He said all of his family members, including Ahmad Hakimi's cousins and aunts from Melor, departed for KL on Wednesday night.
Daud thanked the government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for pulling all necessary strings for his grandson’s remains, as well as the remains of others, to be buried here.
Meanwhile, Zaleha also expressed her gratitude that she would be able to 'see' her grandson again.
Ahmad Hakimi, who joined MAS four years ago as a First Officer, leaves behind his wife Sharifah Asma’a Syed Alwi Al Junied and a year-old son, Abderrahman.
