The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) on Tuesday has denied allegations that American troops are in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Ipoh, Perak in relation to the search and rescue of missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane MH370.
The police said this in response to questions posed on social media on why the American troops were "spotted" in full gear in both the cities.
RMP explained on their Facebook page that the picture depicts an exercise between RMP and the American army at the Ipoh Air Unit Airport, Perak, in 2012.
The Facebook post also advised people not to believe unofficial information disseminated through blogs or other media platforms.
Police said any dissemination of false information may jeapordise investigations and can disturb peace in the country.
