MH370 money theft: Four years jail, three strokes for husband and arrest warrant for wife

The husband of the couple who stole a total of RM7,650 from the account of a Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 victim, was today sentenced to four years of jail and ordered three strokes of the rotan.
According to The Star Online, Judge Norsharidah Awang issued an arrest warrant for Basheer Ahmad Maula Sahul Hameed’s wife, Nur Shila Kanan, who was not present in court.
The bank officer could not attend the court session as she was on sick leave due to diarrhea and issued a medical certificate from Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
On Aug 20 last year, the couple pleaded not guilty to the charges. Four prosecution witnesses testified during the hearing of the case which started on April 16.
On April 28, Nur Shila and her husband changed their pleas to guilty and both were convicted by the court.
The charges against Nur Shila were for transferring money belonging to Malaysian citizens by using forged documents and cheating the bank supervisor and stealing the money.
Nur Shila also faces prison for making illegal transfers and withdrawals, amounting to RM85,180 in total, from the passengers' accounts.
The offence was committed at her workplace at HSBC Bank in Lebuh Ampang between May 14 and July 8 last year.
Meanwhile, Basheer Ahmad Maula was charged with withdrawing the money using the victims' debit and ATM cards at HSBC Amanah Ampang Point, Ampang here, between 10.02am on May 15 and 11.28pm on June 29, last year.
