“Never give up!”
Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Huang Huikang gave this strong one-liner response when asked if the families from China could be losing hope over the missing MH370 on Wednesday.
Huang who quickly went into his car before being driven away –did not manage to explain if he was asking the families not to give up, or that he believes they won’t.
The question to Huang was asked by a reporter from China, part of the 50 over local and international media camped out at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa since morning.
On Wednesday, the Chinese official had met with the dozen or so family members from Beijing who are staying over at the hotel.
“So far I am satisfied with the family members condition. They have kept calm and patient,” Huang said when asked of the family’s condition.
However, Huang said the biggest complaint was that they were not getting timely and accurate information.
“At this time, there are two bad scenarios happening, information is quite mixed and there is a lot of confusion. All types of rumours are flying about,” he said.
He added that he has asked Malaysian officials to provide them with direct informations.
“They just want to know what happened, what’s going on and what is the next step,” he said.
Huang also requested that the family be given emotional space and a “comfortable and quiet” environment at this time, pleading the media to not disturb them at this moment.
Meanwhile, Huang also dismissed a report claiming that Chinese families were mistakenly brought to India by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) when they were supposed to land in Kuala Lumpur.
An AsiaOne report had referred to a CitTV news segment from Taiwan, on March, which alleged that a flight arranged by MAS “messed up in transit”.
There have been numerous reports the families of Chinese passengers missing on flight MH370 complaining about the ‘slow’ flow of information.
There was one reported incident where a family member allegedly throw a water bottle at a MAS employee.
