MHA monitors structure of highways to ensure safety of motorists - Ahmad

The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) always monitored the structure of highways to ensure the safety and comfort of motorists.

Its chairman Datuk Ahmad Hamzah said the maintenance of every highway will be done periodically in cooperation with the highway concessionaires.

"The MHA conducts auditing to identify problems or damages that occur on the highways. Immediate action will be taken if there are complaints or damages that can cause accidents," he told reporters after opening the Career and Education Carnival of the Jasin parliamentary constituency, here today.

Ahmad said there were no plans to raise the toll rates which are reviewed every five years based on the agreement between the government and the concessionaires.

"The increase is only allowed at the set time but if it is not approved, the government is forced to pay the concessionaires a high amount as compensation," he said.
