The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has instructed MIC to hold a re-election for all positions as early as April.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the branches must hold their elections in April while the elections for Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri wings must be held between April and June.
He also said the elections for the division, vice-president, deputy president and the Central Working Committee (CWC) elections must be held in July, while the presidential election must be held in May.
“The 2009 CWC will take over as interim until the re-election is done and they must form an election committee.
“Only the list of voters and branches established in 2012 can be used for this re-election,” Dr Ahmad Zahid said at a press conference here on Monday.
He said failure for the MIC to hold a re-election will lead to its deregistration.
Ahmad Zahid added that RoS’ decision is a more practical approach in resolving the disputes in MIC in a more comprehensive way.
On Dec 5 last year, the RoS had directed MIC to hold re-elections for three vice-president and 23 CWC posts within 90 days.
