MIC denies that any payment was given by the party for production of the 'Beribu-ribu Tahniah' song.

“Not a single cent was spent by MIC for the ‘Beribu-ribu Tahniah’ song,” said Sri Andalas state assembly seat candidate T. Mohan.

T. Mohan told Astro Awani that the song was the singer’s own initiative. The singer, Dheephan Chakkravarthy, is a well-known personality from the Indian cinema industry.

The song’, which was the talk on Youtube and Facebook in recent weeks, depicts Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and other BN leaders with the singer himself lip-syncing to the song.

Viewers have commented on his pronunciation, saying the Malay words were not clear as the singer is an Indian citizen.

“There could be mistakes in his pronunciation but we appreciate his effort, it was done without any of the MIC member’s involvement. Plus the singer’s family members live in Malaysia, it was his way of showing his appreciation to the party,” T. Mohan added.

However, legal advisor and the de facto leader of HINDRAF, P. Uthayakumar criticised MIC over the song, saying that anyone would produce a song if they were paid well.

“If given money anyone would do that (sing)," Uthayakumar said.
