MIC rejects hudud, says Palanivel
PALANIVEL: Will issue a statement on hudud laws after this Dewan Rakyat sitting ends
MIC today declared it will not support the Private Member's Bill on hudud which it described as going against the federal constitution.
Its president, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said MIC shared the stand of other Barisan Nasional component parties like MCA and Gerakan on rejecting hudud laws.
"We oppose and will not support (Hudud laws). I will issue my statement on hudud laws after this Dewan Rakyat sitting," he told reporters after attending a tea reception between MIC leaders and Penang MIC members here today.
Also present was Penang MIC chairman M. Karuppanan.
Palanivel, who is Natural Resources and Environment Minister, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia would also issue a statement on the matter after the current sitting.
