MIC President, Datuk Seri G.Palanivel has been urged to resolve party issues following the directive by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for the sake of the party's survival.
MIC vice-president Datuk M.Saravanan said, if the party was disbanded, the fate of more than 600,000 members as well as the Indian society in the country will be left unanswered, due to the fate faced by its president.
“I will meet the RoS tomorrow to obtain clarifications the true position pertaining the party’s status, as its outcome which will inevitably leave party members in a limbo.
“I’ve attempted contacting Palanivel, but to no avail. I've sent him SMS for the last 15 days but, he has yet to respond to any of them,” said Saravanan when contacted by Astro AWANI, here today.
On Saturday, MIC strategic director Datuk Seri S.Vell Paari said Datuk Kumar Silambaram's appointment as secretary-general of the party to replace A.Prakash Rao made by Palanivel in a media statement, is merely void.
The statement had stated that Ramalingam Krishnamoorthy is the new MIC strategic director to replace Vell Paari.
Saravanan, however said that the appointment of the party disciplinary council members are deemed void as it requires consensus from MIC council members.
“I have been pressured by party members from all over the country. I seek the President to explain and request to to convene an immediate assembly to resolve the issues faced by the party.
“We can possibly hold the assembly but must first obtain approval from 40 constituencies but I hope that the party leadership won’t expect us to go to that extend,” he explained.
On Dec 5, 2014, RoS has ordered MIC to conduct fresh elections for 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) and the three vice-president positions within 90 days following the alleged misconduct and breach of party constitution and Society Act.
Prior to this, Palanivel had reportedly said that he will seek further explanation from RoS with regards to the its directive to hold the re-elections.
Palanivel was quoted as saying that he will hold a meeting with Home Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the party's issues.
