MIC urges public not to point fingers over arrest of SRJK Tamil teachers

The MIC has urged the public not to point fingers and make baseless allegations over the arrest of several teachers from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil, following the leak in UPSR examination papers.

Its vice-president, Datuk S. Balakrishnan, said the public should let the authorities investigate the matter thoroughly, adding that it was unfair to bring up racism as an issue.

"Personally, I do not believe that the arrest of the Tamil school teachers has anything to do with race," he told reporters after officiating the Johor Gappin annual meeting here today.

Following police reports lodged over the leaks in the UPSR Science and English papers, the police detained 14 people to facilitate investigations. The leaks affected nearly 470,000 Year Six pupils who will sit for the re-scheduled Science and English papers at the end of this month.
