MIC wants to hold a fresh election for all posts at the various levels to solve its internal strife, said its president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
He said the desire would be conveyed to Prime Minster Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, soon to get his views.
"We are looking at conducting a re-election or fresh election, however, after discussions we want to have a fresh election because it is the best way," he said.
Palanivel, who is also Natural Resources and Environment Minister, told reporters this after meeting with MIC branch chairmen throughout Johor at Dewan Orang Ramai Parit Yaani, here today.
Also present were the two party presidents, Datuk S.Sothinathan and Datuk S.Balakrishnan.
It is hoped that the fresh election could strengthen the whole MIC members and the 68-year-old party.
Palanivel will also hold a meeting with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to resolve several matters.
He said elections at the branch level was expected to be held next June and followed by the divisional level and other top posts.
Asked if all quarters in the party unanimously agreed with move to hold fresh elections, Palanivel said it was requested by all parties, including those who opposed him.
On plans to hold meetings with branch chairmen in other states after this, he said it would be decided after the Thaipusam celebration this Tuesday (Feb 3).
The internal crisis in MIC arose after RoS cancelled the election for the post of three vice presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) members during the MIC general assembly in Melaka in November, 2013.
In a letter dated Dec 5, 2014, RoS ordered MIC to hold a re-election for these posts within 90 days following allegations of irregularities and breach of the party constitution and Societies Act.
