MIC Youth chief, delegates prohibited from voting in party polls
Thirty-eight MIC Youth delegates, including recently-elected Youth chief C. Sivarraajh, have been prohibited from voting at the party's national election on Nov 30, due to irregularities.
This was announced by party secretary-general A. Sakthivel at the MIC headquarters Tuesday.
Speaking to Bernama, he said the decision was made by the party's election committee, following several allegations of ballot fraud and misconduct in the election of the national MIC Youth wing on Nov 16.
At the election, Sivarraajh polled 278 votes - 44 votes more than his rival, Youth deputy chief, V. Mugilan.
"We received the complaints two days ago, claiming there were fraudulent acts during the election.
"The complainants alleged that nine delegates who were declared bankrupt, several non-members and even a delegate who was out of Malaysia, had voted on Nov 16.
"Therefore, the committee has decided that 38 delegates from the Youth wing be disallowed from attending the party's general assembly," said Sakthivel, adding that the wing's delegates would be officially notified on the matter.
He said the election committee viewed the complaints seriously, and would investigate thoroughly.
On the possible dates of re-election, Sakthivel said the matter would be decided upon completion of the current investigation.
