The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), with the strong support from its members and partners, will be able to drive the high technology sector so as to make significant contribution and impact to the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) vision.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said MIGHT's role as a public-private partnership platform for the high technology sector was important in the TN50, as it had succeeded in making Malaysia as the 10th largest country in the world in terms of high technology export value in 2014 at US$63.3 billion.
"This is an excellent achievement by a small country such as Malaysia, especially under the current global economic uncertainties.
"Being ranked 11th in global High Technology in 2014 is a good trend that we need to sustain, through the efforts of Government agencies and industry players," she told a press conference after MIGHT's event themed 'Tribute to Partnership' here, Thursday.
At the event, two institutions and an individual were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the high technology industry in Malaysia for 2016.
They were the British High Commission for an international segment; Free the Seed Sdn Bhd for its entrepreneurship; and an engineer, Datuk Ir Hong Lee Pee for excellent individual contribution.
Nancy said MIGHT had proven its continual success in organising the platform for industry players to share their knowledge to further develop the local industry for national interest.
MIGHT now consists of members from various high technology sectors such as aerospace, rail, solar, biotechnology and others, and are leaders in their respective segments, with a mix of Government-linked companies, small and medium enterprises, research institutions, academia and government institutions.
"Let us now move forward together and reap the abundant opportunities that lie ahead while maintaining the strategic role of the industry in contributing to the nation's high-tech economy.
"I pray that 2017 will bring Malaysia to a better path in high technology," she said.
Nancy said she very confident that the platform programmes that MIGHT had just introduced, such as consultancy and advisory services and myForesight services, would be able to nurture the partnership to a higher level. -- BERNAMA
