The rural and regional development ministry has allocated RM40 million this year to replace rusty water pipes in Kelantan to provide the people with clean water.
Deputy minister, Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the project would be implemented promptly as in many areas, the water pipes were four-decade-old.
"This (the use of rusty pipes) results in a large number of people being forced to use dirty water," he told reporters at an event, 'Love Smallholders and Risda Development Programme and Handing Over Flood Aid' in Kampung Dewan here today.
More than 360 flood victims in the village received aid comprising basic needs which included rice, sugar, biscuit and tea.
Ahmad Jazlan, who is also Machang MP, said residents often experienced disruptions in water supply due to clogged pipes.
He said the allocation would also be used to repair water pipes which sourced water from hilly areas. - BERNAMA
