The South Integrated Terminal (TBS) will be used as a guide in planning the construction of two more integrated transport terminals, namely in Sungai Buloh for the north-plying express buses and Gombak for the east-plying express buses.
Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the two terminals would be constructed based on experience and problems encountered in managing the TBS, apart from feedbacks from the public.
The ministry is confident that the TBS capacity could be further enhanced by next year, he said after visiting the TBS here today.
The construction of the two new terminals is part of the public transportation National Key Result Areas (NKRA) to divert about 780 north-plying and east-plying buses from entering the capital.
"I assure you that whatever constraints (faced by the TBS) can be addressed as the facilities are already in placed. It will be a waste if existing facilities are not fully utilised," he said.
On 'Op Selamat', Hishammuddin said as 53 accidents were recorded in the first three days of the operations, a microanalysis of the causes needed to be conducted by taking various factors into account.
"Personally, I am disappointment and worried over our drivers' attitude," he said, adding that the government viewed the issue seriously and would make efforts to curtail accidents during festive seasons.
He said the number of vehicles plying the expressways increased to three million during festive seasons compared to 1.9 million on weekdays.
On Umno's election in October, Hishammuddin, who is Umno vice-president, reminded Umno members to maintain the family spirit and esprit de corps, apart from placing the party's interest above self-interest.
"Win or lose, we are all responsible in ensuring that the Umno and BN transformation succeeds," he said.
Reiterating that he will be defending the vice-presidency, Hishammuddin said, "Umno members in Sembrong (Umno division) unanimously agreed that I should defend the post."
He said however, the president and deputy president's posts should not be contested.
