The special task force is to deal with all matters concerning the government's efforts in controlling the use of vapes.
The Health Ministry has established a special task force to answer all queries on matters concerning e-cigarettes or vapes.
The task force is headed Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam announced today.
He said, any statement on the matter would only be issued by the task force to ensure that efforts to control the use of vape could be carried out comprehensively.
The Ministry on Thursday had begun operations on seizing liquid nicotine from vape shops and other unlicensed traders and distributors.
Dr Subramaniam said, his side had been instructed to act against unlicensed traders who are selling liquid nicotine used for e-cigarettes or vapourisers.
He said, the Ministry has the authority to seize the products, according to the Poisons Act 1952 (Revised 1989) and Food Act 1983.
According to the Poisons Act, nicotine is categorised under Group C poison and those who manufacture, distribute and sell the product need to have a licence.
Yesterday, the Malaysia E-Vaporizers and Alternative Tobacco Association (Mevta) had suggested the government come up with a guideline on the sales of the flavoured nicotine liquid for e-cigarettes to avoid traders suffer losses.
