Ministry to introduce new SOPs to address PPR housing issues

The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will introduce new standard operating procedures (SOPs) to solve problems arising in People's Housing Projects (PPRs) nationwide.

National Housing Department director-general Datuk Mohamad Yusoff Ghazali said the SOPs would be finalised in three months after holding discussions with all state governments, local authorities and other relevant agencies.

"For example, there is a proposal to be included in the new SOPs, that is for Kuala Lumpur City Hall to adopt the Green Card system to monitor PPR tenants.

"The Green Card system will enable the ministry to record number of tenants in a PPR house...they (tenants) should list down their names in the card," he told reporters after participating in an operation codenamed 'Op Sejahtera Komuniti' at the Jalan Pudu Ulu PPR, here Saturday.

Mohamad Yusoff said among the problems that had been identified in PPR schemes were outstanding rental and renting PPR units to third parties, including foreigners.

Mohamad Yusoff said five units of PPR houses were found to have been rented to third parties, while 53 units had outstanding rental.

"To those who fail to pay their monthly rental, warning notices have been issued, while warning notices and termination notices have been issued to tenants who rented out their units to third parties," he said.
