Ministry secretary-general, 2 sons remanded for 7 days

A government ministry secretary general and his two sons have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into a power abuse and corruption case.
The remand order on the 59-year-old sec-gen with the title of 'Datuk' was obtained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission from magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman today.
The suspect who was detained at his residence at USJ, Subang at 8am yesterday arrived at the courthouse wearing the orange coloured lockup shirt with his face covered with a striped t-shirt.
His two sons aged 29 and 34 were detained when they came to the MACC headquarters to have their statements taken.
The two men are managing directors of two different companies.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said the investigation on the three individuals would be conducted under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009, Section 165 of the Penal Code, and Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Yesterday, MACC seized and confiscated cash and gold bars worth RM3 million as well as luxury watches, handbags and pens, and foreign currencies, following the secretary-general's detention. -- Bernama
