The 'miracle water' claimed to have been promoted by a school headmistress in Klang, Selangor is just regular drinking water, said Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan.
He said the District Education Office (PPD) had obtained an explanation from the headmistress of SJK(C) Pandamaran A who informed the authorities that it was normal drinking water which was filtered using a machine, from the Cahaya brand provided at the school.
"The water filter was opened and (upon checking) the inside parts of the machine did not show any element of 'jampi' (magic spell). There were only several filters," he added.
Kamalanathan was speaking to reporters after launching the 3K Awards 2016 new web portal www.anugerah.3k3c.com.my here today.
The awards are aimed at educating and recognising primary and secondary school efforts in improving their school environment with emphasis on three main aspects, namely hygiene, health and safety.
Last Friday, the media reported that parents of pupils in the school were furious after discovering that the headmistress allegedly forced the pupils to drink the 'miracle water', claiming it would enable them to pass the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) with flying colours.
In addition, it was reported the headmistress had raised buntings across the school to encourage under-performing students to drink the water which was claimed to have 'power' to make the students smarter.
Kamalanathan said the ministry had to wait for the investigation report on the water sample taken, which would be issued by the Health Ministry before taking any action against the headmistress.
He said initial investigations by the PPD revealed the water bottles had its distributor company logo from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) and halal logo from the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).
