Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said there was a 'miscommunication' in his earlier denial about TH's purchase of a plot of land worth RM188.5 million from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
While he confirmed the land purchase, Abdul Azeez said what he denied was a claim in a blog that two plots of land were purchased by TH at a total of RM722 million.
"Yes. Sorry for the miscommunication. It's not true about the 722 million acquiring the 2 lots… That's what I denied," he tweeted today from his handle @azeezputera.
He said TH had only invested in one investment, "at a lower price", The Malaysian Insider reported.
"Not two units as written in the blog. That was what I was denying," he added.
Recently, The Benchmark blog as well as other blogs published a document, claiming that TH has purchased two plots of land at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) for the price of RM772 million, using the money deposited by contributors and not the government’s money.
The blog claimed hat an ‘insider’ from TH confirmed the fast track agreement was made after getting the approval of a minister within two weeks dan payment needs to be paid in full to 1MDB.
The document revealed that TH paid RM2,680 per square foot (RM194 million) for the first plot of land and for the second plot of land. It is said that TH agreed to pay RM3,900 (RM578 million) in cash.
It was earlier reported that Abdul Azeez has instructed the management of Tabung Haji to issue a statement regarding a claim of the purchase of a 1MDB land, which was spread of social media since last night.
However, he had denied the claim on his Twitter account, yesterday.
TH in a statement released today had confirmed purchasing a piece of land for the purpose of the development at the TRX financial district.
