DAVOS: The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) will not only attract foreign investments to Malaysia but is also exploring international business opportunities for Malaysian companies at the World Economic Forum (WEF) here, said its minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
He said the job of promoting Malaysia is not only for the government but that the corporate sector should also bear the responsibility.
"In this mission to Davos, I am pleased because apart from agencies under Miti such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and InvestKL, government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) such as Khazanah, Employees Provident Fund, Permodalan Nasional Bhd, Petronas, and Sime Darby are also here, meeting and discussing with major companies in the world.
"We have provided a conducive atmosphere in Malaysia House to facilitate the meetings that have been arranged. Hopefully, this will bear fruit for Malaysia," he said in his Instagram posting.
The 53rd annual WEF from Jan 16-20 has drawn 2,700 leaders from 130 countries, including 52 heads of state at the Swiss Alps resort here.
With the theme 'Cooperation in a Fragmented World: Addressing Pressing Crises, Tackling Future Challenges', this year's event is held amid various crises that have heightened geopolitical tensions.
The Malaysian delegation is led by Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.
The minister is expected to participate in various sessions, including on economic costs, supply chains, transport, and a session called "Living with Risk" where he will be one of three panellists.
