Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has confirmed the temporary closure of the Taman Megah Public Market in Petaling Jaya following a case of a COVID-19 positive trader.
Following that, he said, 60 traders at the premises also underwent COVID-19 testing and screening and close contact detection was performed.
"We have been told that Taman Megah Public Market actually has a COVID-19 positive trader and as part of the case-tracking, it also involved 60 traders there who were also close contacts.
"We hope to be able to detect anyone who has been in contact with them. Based on experience, close contact detection rates are up to 30 per cent (in general)," he said at a daily press conference here on Sunday.
In the meantime, Dr Noor Hisham advised those in close contact with the traders to go for COVID-19 screening.
"If they have close contact, then they will need to take the COVID-19 test. But what is important is that we want them to avoid public gatherings and prioritise social distancing and make sure they always wash their hands from one stall to another," he said.
Earlier, Bandar Utama state assemblyperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin said on her Facebook page that her office had received reports of a COVID-19 positive case at Taman Megah Public Market.
According to her, the COVID-19 positive victim was one of the vegetable traders in the market.
