Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin expressed regret on the misinformation published by the social media and websites regarding what was said by Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh at a hearing on February 11.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hasan confirmed that the former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Chairman had never said that money from 1MDB had been transferred to the personal account of the Prime Minister.
"This was consistent with the repeated public confirmation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General's Chambers regarding the matter," he said.
Hasan also said that the PAC was investigating the 1MDB matter in a professional and transparent manner based on documentary evidence, interviews of witnesses and the outcome of audit by the National Audit Department.
Therefore, he asked all quarters to cease unnecessary speculation and wait for the official PAC report that will be presented to Parliament in March 2016.
