Former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan has withdrawn his RM50 million defamation suit filed against jailed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

No reason was given for the withdrawal.

High Court judicial commissioner made the ruling today after Mohd Saiful’s counsel Zamri Idrus informed Azizul in chambers of Mohd Saiful’s intention, The Star Online reported.

Mohd Saiful, 30, filed the suit on June 23, 2014, seeking RM50 million in damages and citing physical trauma and agony since 2008 as a result of having been allegedly sodomised by Anwar.

In his statement of claim, Mohd Saiful contended that Anwar had accused him of defaming and conspiring against him with his police report alleging sodomy on June 28, 2008.

Mohd Saiful also claimed that he never lied in the police report about having been sodomised by Anwar and that the last sodomy incident took place on June 26, 2008, at Unit 1151, Desa Damansara Condominium, Jalan Setia Kasih.

Anwar, 67, in his statement of defence filed on Oct 8 last year, denied having sodomised Mohd Saiful and said the allegations were false.

On Feb 10 this year, the Federal Court upheld the five-year jail sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal on Anwar after it had found him guilty of having sodomised Mohd Saiful.

Anwar is currently serving the sentence in the Sungai Buloh prison.
