IPOH: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has approved the establishment of Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM) which will open a new chapter in an effort to strengthen the entrepreneurship agenda, especially at the institutions of higher learning (IPT).
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said UKKM will be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).
"We approved the establishment of the university so that other IPTs can collaborate and complement each other.
"This is not only from the aspect of developing student and graduate entrepreneurs, but also from the aspect of research and innovation in the field of entrepreneurship," she told Bernama here yesterday.
Noraini handed over the letter of approval to Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar at the Perak Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Consolidation programme as well as the KPT Prihatin Keluarga Malaysia programme which was also attended by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
Meanwhile, Noh said the UKKM is expected to start operating this September in Cyberjaya involving about 500 to 1,000 students.
"This approval coincides with the 100th anniversary celebration of cooperatives in the country on July 22.
"It will also encourage and facilitate graduates to venture into this field as the repayment can be done after a year," he explained.
